Books Are Food for Thought was created in 2008 by Stephanie Breed. This program delivers books to kids receiving free and reduced cost meals at community centers and schools in CNY.
The program's overall goal is to promote literacy by annually delivering 5-6 books to each child. Almost 12,000 books have already been delivered to thousands of kids. Books have been collected from friends and family and book drives have been held at local churches and schools.
Books have been delivered to the Northeast Community Center, The Samaritan Center, The Southside Church of Christ, the Rescue Mission, Parkside Community Center, Van Duyn School, East Fayette Street Boys and Girls Club, Wilson Park Community Center, Schiller Park Community Center, Mary Nelson Youth Center, the bible school program at St.Vincent de Paul, the PEACE Center, Say YES programs at Bellevue and Dr. Weeks Elementary Schools, and the Imagine Syracuse program at Huntington and Determination Centers.
